professional experience
Charles has been working in the field of photography for over 20 years.
Commercially, he's worked as a unit photographer shooting stills for
many film and television productions including the recently completed Euphoria, Falcon Beach, Blue State, Elijah and The Sharing Circle (Canon gear with blimp); special events for the National Screen Institute, the National Film Board, the Health Council of Canada and the Gimli Film Festival; and created original photogaphic artwork for numerous print and web-based publications.
Charles also has 8 years experience in arts administration and project management as director of Platform: Centre for Photographic & Digital Arts (formerly the Floating Gallery), interim executive director of the Winnipeg Film Group and collections manager at the Ukrainian Cultural & Educational Centre.
As a visual artist, his projects have adorned transit buses, office building interiors and the pages of the Winnipeg Free Press.
He constructed an experimental video entitled, “Man Without a Movie Camera”, using discarded negatives from the Winnipeg Sun.
As a curator, Charles organized an exhibition of 10 visual artists from Winnipeg entitled, “Latitudes”, that opened in Belgrade, Serbia.
While living in Montréal, he majored in photography at Concordia University. After completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Charles was invited to Le Domaine de Kerguehennec in Brittainy as part of a student residency program.
