the vision

director's statement

I have been collecting 19th century images that speak for my vision of the two worlds inhabited by Emily Blake — one is the restricted reality of her situation as a 19th century servant and the other is the richly melodramatic fantasy life of her imagination.
These images suggest characters, atmosphere, mood and colour. They also refer to the central theme of the story, which is the conflict between controlled domesticity and disordered human nature.
